The Third Generation Chevrolet Camaro

Thinking about a 3rd Generation Chevrolet Camaro here’s what you need to know…

So the Camaro is the Chevrolet muscle car offering going up against the likes of the Ford Mustang and historically these have been a real contender for the ultimate muscle car. It’s a go to choice for any Chevy fan who wants to something different to the Dodge, Ford and Pontiac versions. The 3rd Generation as a choice is really worth considering too. These were first introduced in 1982 using the F Body platform and were also some of the first Chevrolet cars to offer fuel injection whilst carburettor versions were also offered. Other first includes 4 speed auto boxes, 5 speed manual transmission and 4 cylinder engines. The design was like nothing Chevrolet had produced before and didn’t compare to the 1st or 2nd generation Camaro. An altogether sleeker design with complex rear window, reclining front windscreen and much more of a sports car look and feel. In fact it was only really the Z28 badging that followed through which in 1985 became the IROC-Z standing for International Race of Champions. It also saw with this generation a move away from the 5.7 litre 305/350 engines replaced by a 305 5.0 engine either fuel injected or carb. The 350 engine returned later in 1986. The third generation Camaro continued to run until 1992.

These actually make great cars for American cars fan so it’s well worth considering one if you want to import a Chevrolet Camaro. The technology is still simple enough for anyone to work on the problems they suffer with invariably just require replacement of fairly simple parts or modules. Easy to work on and easy to maintain. The unique design is also stand out and turns heads. They have the rumble and roar that we all loves so much but typically handle very well due to the low level stance and aerodynamics. They also benefit from power steering and power brakes. A good version will also still cost you less than £10000 which when it comes to buying a classic car in good order which has spades of attitude isn’t bad going.
